Shanghai Masters Predictions 2025

This October brings the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 event of the year, with the Shanghai Masters beginning in China. While all 4 Grand Slams are in the rear vision mirror for 2025, there’s still plenty to play for over the final weeks of the season.

As a host of players arrive in Shanghai with their ATP Finals hopes hanging in the balance, who can finish the season strong? Read on for our analysis of the latest tennis betting odds, including a breakdown of the top five favorites heading into this week’s action.

Key Takeaways

  • World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Shanghai Masters on the eve of the tournament
  • 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will make his first appearance since the US Open
  • Ben Shelton returns from injury, having not played since New York
  • Only 2 players are confirmed for the ATP Finals, with 18 chasing the last 6 spots.

Jannik Sinner Predictions – 55.56% Probability of Winning @ 1.80

Rarely will you see outright tennis odds shorter than 1.80, but that’s exactly what bookmakers have assigned Sinner heading into the Shanghai Masters.

The Italian’s odds have been buoyed significantly by Alcaraz’s withdrawal. The reason being, over the past 14 months, Sinner is an incredible 69-1 against players not named Alcaraz (and 1-5 vs Alcaraz). So without him in the equation, Sinner is an enormous favorite to win, for good reason.

But it’s not just Alcaraz’s absence that has Sinner at such short odds at tennis bookmakers to claim his fifth Masters title. The world No 2 arrives in Shanghai in sharp form, having just made another deep run in Beijing. Play is still ongoing, with Sinner taking on Learner Tien as a 1.03 favorite in the final.

Conditions in Shanghai favor the 24-year-old too. The DecoTurf is consistently one of the fastest hardcourts on Tour, which only enhances his pace from the baseline and hefty serve.

There’s a reason Sinner won here last year. This time, he’s even fresher thanks to his three-month suspension earlier in 2025, and won’t be lacking motivation, given he’s 2,500 points behind in the race for year-end No 1.

Novak Djokovic Predictions – 10.53% Probability of Winning @ 9.50

Odds lengthen significantly between Sinner and the remainder of the field. Djokovic is one of two players sitting equal-second in the bookies’ odds, priced at a juicy 9.50.

The Serbian’s presence at this event is nothing short of bewildering. Time and time again over the past 2 years, Djokovic has emphasized that his focus is on winning majors. This hasn’t just been empty rhetoric either – since mid-May this year, he’s played just 3 tournaments (Roland-Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open).

So with three-and-a-half months until the next Grand Slam, Djokovic signing up for the Shanghai Masters is certainly an odd move. It’s not as though the ATP Tour’s all-time prize money leader is lacking in coin, either.

All this to say, Djokovic is likely one of two things: bored, or taking a more focused, match-heavy approach to winning Grand Slam number 25. If it’s the former, steer clear; an early exit could be on the cards. If it’s the latter, then beware; when the best player to ever swing a racket sets his mind to something, only the brave bet against him.

Alexander Zverev Predictions – 10.53% Probability of Winning @ 9.50

The other player level with Djokovic in the Shanghai Masters betting odds is Zverev, who also pays 9.50 and has a roughly 10% chance of winning.

Zverev has consistently held on to the world No 3 spot this season, but has been an underwhelming presence at best. The German has taken 20 losses already in 2025, more than half of which were to players outside the world’s top 15.

Earlier this week, he crashed out of the Beijing Open at the hands of the out-of-form Daniil Medvedev, before which he took back-to-back losses at the Laver Cup. With four losses in 6 matches and a back injury hampering him, it’s hard to see Zverev as a realistic betting option here, particularly since he hasn’t gone deep in Shanghai since 2019.

Taylor Fritz Predictions – 7.69% Probability of Winning @ 13.00

Outside of Sinner and Alcaraz, Fritz has been the most consistent player on Tour in the second half of the season. Bookies have him priced at 13.00 (just shy of 8% chance) for good reason.

The American just strung together a seven-match run that saw him beat Alcaraz and Zverev back-to-back route to Team World’s Laver Cup title, before making the final of the Japan Open. There, he was beaten by Alcaraz in straight sets, but still brought a high level of play.

Fritz’s only concern will be the thigh injury he picked up in Tokyo, which saw him heavily strapped during Tuesday’s final. There has been no news of a withdrawal from Shanghai yet, and given Fritz’s track record, he’ll soldier on.

Trouble is, it takes Fritz’s absolute top level to compete with the likes of Sinner and Djokovic – and even then it’s a struggle, with just one win in 16 matches against those two. Health concerns make Fritz a tricky bet heading into Shanghai.

Alex de Minaur Predictions – 6.67% Probability of Winning @ 15.00

Rounding out the top-five favorites to win the Shanghai Masters is Alex de Minaur, who is yet to lift a 1000-level trophy.

The Aussie has been a consistent force, however, sitting at seventh in the Race to Turin and holding a 47-18 record so far this season. He rarely takes a bad loss, and is the consummate professional when it comes to getting about his work and going deep, week-in, week-out.

Should the draw open up, De Minaur has the level to capitalize. The fast tennis game surface is no help to his under-powered, defensive game though, so don’t expect him to go blasting his way through the draw on his own.
