League of Legends First Stand Tournament Preview

The First Stand Tournament is the first S-Tier League of Legends event of 2026. From March 16 to 22, eight teams will compete in Brazil for the first major title of the season.

The tournament begins with a group stage where four teams compete in both Group A and Group B. The two best teams from each group advance to the playoffs. The total prize pool for FST 2026 is $1,000,000, with $250,000 awarded to the tournament winner.

Below is an overview of the most important tournament details together with a look at the main title contenders.

The League of Legends First Stand Tournament begins with a group stage. Two groups contain four teams each, and the top two teams from every group move forward to the playoffs.

The team that finishes first in Group A will face the second-placed team from Group B in the semifinals.

Group matches begin with the Upper Bracket Semifinals. Winning teams advance to the Upper Bracket Final, while the losing teams move to the Lower Bracket Semifinal.

The winner of the Upper Bracket Final secures first place in the group and advances directly to the tournament semifinals. The losing team will then play in the Lower Bracket Final.

All matches in the group stage are played in a BO5 format using Fearless Draft.

Eight esports teams will compete in the 2026 First Stand Tournament. In comparison, the 2025 edition held in Seoul featured only five teams, with Hanwha Life Esports winning the title. Since the reigning champion is not participating this year, the tournament will crown a new winner.

The lineup of teams is also completely different from the previous edition. None of the teams that participated in the 2025 event appear in this year’s tournament.

Gen.G is widely viewed as the strongest contender for the 2026 FST title. The main challengers are expected to be Bilibili Gaming and JD Gaming.

Gen.G from South Korea arrives in Brazil as the clear favourite for the 2026 First Stand Tournament. Earlier this year the team won the LCK Cup 2026, while in 2025 it secured victories at the Mid-Season Invitational, the Esports World Cup, and the LCK 2025 Season.

Gen.G reached the semifinals of the 2025 World Championship, where the team was eliminated by KT Rolster.

Among the participating teams, Gen.G arguably has the strongest roster. The core lineup has been playing together since November 2024. The group stage begins with a match against JD Gaming, which is considered one of the team’s main competitors.

This opening match will provide an early indication of Gen.G’s form and whether the team is capable of dominating the tournament in Brazil.

Bilibili Gaming enters the tournament as the favourite in Group A. The main objective is to secure first place in the group, which would potentially avoid a matchup against Gen.G before the final.

The Chinese organization currently has a seven-player roster. Two of those players have been competing together since 2022.

Before the start of the 2026 season, Bilibili Gaming strengthened its lineup with Park “Viper” Do-hyeon, one of the top League of Legends players from South Korea. His arrival significantly increases the team’s overall potential. “Viper” is also the only MVP candidate outside the Gen.G roster.

Bilibili Gaming entered the 2026 FST after winning LPL 2026 Split 1 on March 8. The team also won LPL 2025 Split 3 last year and finished fourth at the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational.

Aside from Gen.G, Bilibili Gaming can be viewed as the strongest team in the tournament. If the team finishes first in Group A, the chances of reaching the final increase significantly, where a potential matchup against Gen.G could take place.

JD Gaming from China is considered the main rival of Gen.G in Group B. The two teams meet immediately in the opening match of the group stage. Even if JD Gaming fails to pull off an upset in that match, the team still has a strong chance to reach the playoffs as the second-placed team in the group.

JD Gaming entered the 2026 season with a heavily rebuilt roster. Xu “Xiaoxu” Xingzu joined the team in July 2025 and is currently the longest-standing member of the lineup. The remaining four players joined at the beginning of December 2025.

Because the roster was rebuilt so recently, expectations remain relatively modest. Finishing second in the group and reaching the playoffs would already represent a solid result.

The League of Legends 2026 First Stand Tournament will take place in two stages. Group stage matches are scheduled for March 16 – 20, while the playoffs will be played on March 21 – 22.

The 2026 League of Legends season features four S-Tier tournaments, and FST is one of them. Its overall importance is slightly lower than the Mid-Season Invitational, Esports World Cup, and the World Championship, yet every participating team aims to win the event in Brazil.
