Indian Wells ATP Predictions: Will Alcaraz Win?
The first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year is upon us, with the best 96 players in men’s tennis fighting it out for the 2026 Indian Wells title over the next fortnight. Can Carlos Alcaraz extend his unbeaten streak to start the year, or will someone usurp the Spaniard’s reign? Read on as I give my men’s Indian Wells predictions.
Men’s Title Contenders – Indian Wells 2026
The way I see it, these are the top five title contenders in Indian Wells this year:
- Carlos Alcaraz
- Jannik Sinner
- Novak Djokovic
- Ben Shelton
- Taylor Fritz
There are a few dark horses I’m keeping my eye on too:
- Alexander Bublik
- Sebastian Korda
- Felix Auger-Aliassime
- Frances Tiafoe
My 2026 Indian Wells ATP Prediction
I’m tipping Alcaraz to make it three titles from three events in 2026. The world No 1 has already bagged the Australian Open and Doha trophies this year, and there’s a clear argument for him prevailing in Indian Wells too.
Across the five editions of this event that Alcaraz has played, he’s made the semi-finals four times and won the title twice for a 20-3 record. The gritty tennis surface combined with the hot desert air clearly suits his play style – it gives him fraction more time on the ball, allowing him to get in position and generate pace beautifully.

The Spaniard is well-rested having taken last week off, and is not short on confidence. The same can’t be said of his main rival, Sinner, who arrives in Indian Wells having suffered surprise defeats to Jakub Mensik and Djokovic so far this year.
He’ll bounce back for sure, but tipping him to beat Alcaraz – against whom he’s 2-7 in their last nine – is a bold call.
As for the other contenders – Djokovic, Shelton, Fritz and the rest – I’ve got concerns over all of them. Djokovic needs circumstances to fall his way even in best-of-three, while the two Americans have obvious holes in their games that can be exploited.
Dark horses like Alexander Bublik, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda are far too inconsistent, while top-10 regulars Alex de Minaur and Alexander Zverev don’t have the track record on these courts.
I simply give Alcaraz a far better chance of prevailing should he meet any of the above in the final. Many sports bookies also have the Spaniard as the clear favorite, so backing the 22-year-old to lift his third Indian Wells trophy next Sunday in California looks like a strong play.
